The Royal Family’s First Tour
In 2014, the royal couple embarked on a three-week tour of Australia and New Zealand, bringing Prince George along for their first trip as a family of three. Kate wanted her son to spend as much time as possible outside the palace walls, experiencing life more like she did growing up.
While a royal tour was far from ‘normal,’ it gave the young prince an excellent start. Prince William, who was the first royal to live a relatively normal life, set the precedent. Until then, royal children grew up with nannies and had limited closeness to their mothers.
