In a 1992 episode of “The Simpsons,” Mr. Burns recruited some basketball players for his softball team, including former New York Yankees player Don Mattingly. Burns ended up benching Don Mattingly for not following the rules about sideburns, and it happened in real life.
When the episode became popular, people thought that the animation’s writers had repeated the event that happened in reality. Still, the episode had been released a month before the player was put on the bench by his actual Yankees coach.
