Hana moved to stay near the vet, but he gently signaled for space, saying he needed quiet to concentrate. She nodded and joined Peter in the waiting room. They sat close together, saying nothing, surrounded by white walls and the slow tick of a clock that seemed too loud.

Time felt stretched, every second dragging heavier than the last. Hana’s hands fidgeted in her lap as worry took over. What if they had arrived too late? What if nothing could be done? Now, all they had left was hope and silence.
