Everything else faded the moment Hana stood face to face with the bear. Her chest pounded so hard she could barely hear anything else. She didn’t feel like a hero, just someone who knew she couldn’t walk away.
The bear stared at her with this strange calm, like it knew why it had come. She reached for a snack nearby and slowly backed into an empty room. The bear followed her in. She shut the door quickly and locked it. Then came silence: no screaming, no movement, just her, the bear, and something trembling in its jaws.
