Even the Cop Sounded Unsure Now
The bear moved slowly toward the doorway, each step measured and steady. Then it stopped and looked back, eyes locking with Hana’s in a way that didn’t feel wild at all. She stood still, trying to make sense of it.
The same animal that once showed its teeth now seemed to be asking her to follow. Around her, the officers hesitated. One warned her not to move, calling it a wild animal, but even his voice faltered. The bear didn’t growl or threaten. It simply waited, like it knew something they didn’t.
