No Wedge Heels Around the Queen

Word on the street is that Queen Elizabeth II wasn’t particularly fond of wedge-heeled shoes. But did this stop Duchess Kate from playing volleyball in a pair of cork wedges at her first solo engagement in 2013? Not at all.

The Queen hated wedges because they reminded her of the rationing that occurred during the war. During the resource shortage, the one thing that wasn’t subject to extreme rationing was cork which many people used to make their shoes.
