Where Countries Meet – Discover the World’s Most Breath-taking and Picturesque Border
The Straight Line Border of Egypt and Sudan
The border between Egypt and Sudan is known for its unique characteristic of being a long, straight line that extends for approximately 791 miles through the desert. It was established through a series of agreements between the British and Ottoman Empires during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The rulers determined this based on a specific latitude line (22 degrees north), disregarding natural features or historical boundaries. The border has been a subject of political and territorial disputes, but it is now recognized as the official boundary between the two countries.
