A pre-teen Jackie Earle Haley wasn’t waiting his turn in the Hollywood line. By 1964, at the ripe old age of 12, he was starring alongside a bottlenose dolphin named Flipper on the popular sitcom. His role as Rusty, the show’s adventurous young hero, made him a household name.
While “Flipper” wasn’t an awards magnet, it launched his career and gave him a taste of the limelight. Though he later shed his child star image for more dramatic roles, his early success paved the way for a long and varied acting career.
