Stanford Prison Experiment: From Role-Play to Nightmare

Psychology professor Philip Zimbardo at Stanford University 1971 conducted an intriguing and divisive experiment. Imagine a fake jail being set up in a basement with volunteers acting as prisoners or guards. What began as a simple examination of human behavior suddenly escalated into a spectacle genuinely unthinkable.

The guards, given control, developed cruel inclinations while the captives succumbed to utter hopelessness. Suffice it to say; the entire experiment ended very abruptly after everyone saw the distinction between reality and role-play became so blurred.
