A 2012 study from the University of Maryland revealed inattention blindness, previously associated with distracted drivers, extended to pedestrians wearing headphones. The research showed a significant rise in the number of pedestrians, particularly teens and young men, being injured by cars or trains due to this behavior.
According to Sony, noise-canceling audio devices “listen” to the sounds in your environment and make their own sounds that counteract them, making the noise around you quieter. This works best when the sounds are steady and not too high or low in pitch.
