Millions Flock to Sacred Waters
The Kumbh Mela, a grand Hindu pilgrimage and festival, takes place every 12 years, with smaller Ardh Kumbh Melas every six years. This ancient gathering, believed to have started over 2,000 years ago, is held at four rotating locations: Prayagraj, Haridwar, Nashik, and Ujjain.
Devotees believe bathing in the sacred rivers during the Kumbh Mela cleanses them of sins. The most recent Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj in 2019 saw over 55 million people attending, making it one of the largest peaceful gatherings in the world.
