Japanese wooden sandals, or “geta”, are traditional footwear worn in Japan for centuries. According to some sources, it originated from Southern China and was later exported to Japan. They consist of a wooden base and two raised pieces of wood that elevate the foot off the ground.
These sandals were originally designed for practicality, allowing people to walk more easily on uneven surfaces and keeping their feet dry during rainy seasons. However, today they are also considered fashionable, especially during the summer when people wear “yukata” or “kimono” to festivals.
