IKEA Upgrades Anyone Can Pull Off With Their Own Furniture Right Now

The Fun Part Of Bedtime

All anyone wants is a comfortable bed to sleep in after a hard day’s work. Accept for children. For them, it’s important to have a bed that’s fun and stimulates their imagination. Of course, in a child’s room, a bed isn’t just for sleeping; it’s a part of the bedroom fun.

Nothing says bedroom fun quite like a floating bed. It’s tons of fun and also puts space to good use. Because, with the bed so high, there is more floor to use. Plus, these designs are perfect for extra storage, and importantly, there can be no monster under the bed because all of the fun toys are there.

Now That The Books Are All-Digital

Since the advent of the digital age, and devices like the Kindle and e-reading apps for phones, there have become fewer reasons to keep books in the house. This, in turn, has made book racks redundant. But that doesn’t mean that old bookshelf from IKEA should be thrown out.

As shown with the above image, a foam mattress and some pillow can easily turn the shelf into a comfortable seat. But the bookshelf needs to be turned on its side. Also noted is that the shelves can be used as storage space by fitting drawers or something else nifty to pull out.

A Unique Place For Mittens To Sleep And Sneak A Snack

When a littler box and pillow just won’t do for that special four-legged friend, IKEA has the ideal solution. They stock a cat house made by LURVIG that is perfect for that pillow… maybe not the litter box, though. But there’s another clever component that will make this idea even better.

These cat houses fit perfectly into a Kallax Shelf, and by removing a panel from the shelving and modifying the cat house, the kitty cat can have his own little house. The rest of the shelf can be used to store food and other items… just ensure these are sealed!

Make Your Own Vintage Chest Of Drawers

There’s something about an antique item that adds some character to the room it is in. This, and the fact that real antiques are rare and hard to find, makes them expensive. But that doesn’t mean some antique furniture can’t be made the DIY way, and this isn’t about borrowing grandma’s old grandfather clock.

Instead, it’s all about making things look antique, using IKEA, DIY, and ingenuity. Simply use a stained oak or stained pine cabinet or drawers, and sheen it with some wood-colored stain. Then wipe some of the paint away to thin it out and give the finish a faded, vintage look.

Portable Mini Bar For Impromptu Parties

Wouldn’t everyone like to have their own personal bar in their house? Even if it isn’t for alcohol, a juice bar is just as impressive. Unfortunate space and ultimately money and resources make this a difficult home improvement to pull off. But with a little imagination, it isn’t as impossible as thought.

It’s amazing how a little out-of-the-box thought can turn some simple shelving into a great mini bar with enough storage space for all of the beverages and cocktail mixers. There are nifty glass hangers under the top shelf, and the mesh gates work perfectly as cabinets for other bottles.

A Little Sun Spot For Kittie

Now the cat may either love this or hate it, depending on how they feel about small spaces. Of course, it’s mostly at night that they want to roam the streets since their natural instinct for nighttime hunting. But during the day, as is well documented, cats just want to laze around in the sun.

To make sure they’re safe and comfortable while getting it, this catio is the perfect little hangout spot. All it takes is shelves. In the picture are two Hejne shelves and some chicken wire. The cat stays safe in the structure, and by hanging some of their favorite toys, they stay entertained as well.

Kitty Litter Disposal Unit

Cats are really easy to have as pets. Apart from feeding them and cleaning their litter boxes, they pretty low maintenance, apart from wanting the odd cuddle every once in a while. But a messy litter box is not the ideal site for surprise visitors to see when they pop in.

That’s why this innovative design using an IKEA Friends Bench. The storage space that slides out is the perfect place to keep the litter box. Training a cat to use one is simple too, and involves showing them the litter box from the get-go, and praising them for using it, and not losing it when they don’t use it.

A Unique Cupboard

Sure everyone has their essential bedroom and kitchen cupboard. But don’t we all long for a living room cupboard that is both stylish and practical for storing plates and other dinner-time essentials. The problem is another cupboard is going to take another financial investment.

That is unless, of course, people use some imagination like the above cupboard, which is noted for starting as an IKEA IVAR cabinet. By changing the doors and adding design elements, like the woven basket door mesh fill the oval doors, this can be turned into a stylish and practical cupboard that’ll impress guests.

A Cool Little Mini-Bar

For those apartments that are not very spacious, this mini bar could be the perfect solution for parties or when friends come over. This was initially a glass laptop stand that served as a desk with a clever little nook for putting stationery, papers, or in this case, books.

The glass gave way to a large wooden plank that could hold the refreshments’ weight on the cart, while the bottom platform provides extra storage space. It is pretty impressive that it used to be a regular old table. The transformation is quite epic!

A Fun Bed For The Grown-Ups

Having spoken earlier about the role of a bed in a child’s bedroom, it’s notable that while adults don’t need it as a source of entertainment, they can still want something of quality. Admittedly though, getting something like a solid wood bed is something that will break the bank.

Even though his IKEA bed was already quite modern and stylish, the owner thought it needed an extra rustic touch while reinforcing it in the process. By knocking wooden slats to the bedframe and painting them white, the owners not only added some extra style points to the bedroom but also reinforced the wood, making it stronger too.

Make Sure Baby Never Needs To Be Changed On The Bed

Having baby’s should be one of the proudest moments in a parent’s life. But being a mother is also challenging because contrary to all of those parent books and what they say, no one actually knows what they’re doing. But at least this nifty trick solves one baby hack that’ll make a world of difference.

IKEA does make these dressers with baby changing tables on them. But with a little creativity, this can be done DIY, with some products from IKEA. Just use the base of a set of drawers and put it on top instead of at the bottom, and voila, a changing table.
