An Overhead Perspective Of Las Vegas From 1947

When you think of Las Vegas, you may picture glittering casinos, endless shopping opportunities, and a plethora of other tourist attractions. On the other hand, as shown by this one-of-a-kind photograph from 1947, it wasn’t always as large and well-known. In the ’40s, only about 8,000 people lived there, but that number more than quadrupled during the following decades.

After the conclusion of World War II, the travel and tourist business started to recover and prosper once again. As wartime limitations were eased, an increasing number of tourists traveled to Las Vegas to take in some of the city’s famous dance acts and test their luck at the casinos.
