Captured History: Check Out These Captivating Photos From The Past And Their Equally Enthralling Backstories!

The World’s Last Commerce Sailing Ship In 1949

In 1949, a stunning photograph of the Pamir ship was captured, and it’s still leaving us in awe at the present time. The shipping business company F. Laesiz commissioned the construction of the ship, and after the invention of bulk carriers, this one was among very few of its class to complete the voyage around Cape Horn. However, the warship was taken by the New Zealand government as a prize in 1941, while World War II was in full swing.

A terrible storm left this magnificent craft shattered into a million pieces. It happened in September 1957, during Hurricane Carrie, when the surge from it reached the coastlines of the Azores.
