Jack Haley As “The Tin Man” In A Spooky Shot, For 1939 Film The Wizard Of Oz
Jack Haley’s breakthrough performance was in the 1939 film “The Wizard of Oz,” co-starring Judy Garland, in which he played the notorious Tin Man character. On the other side, there is a more peculiar tale that occurred before he was given this position.
Buddy Ebsen, who was most known for his portrayal in “The Beverly Hillbillies,” was at first considered for the part. Unfortunately, it meant coating his face and torso with aluminum cosmetics which the actor had a bad reaction to. Instead of using a powder, the creators decided to go with a paste in the hopes of preventing Haley from getting the same allergic reaction.
