The Pineapple That Saved Halloween

Alex Schwarz from the University of Akron in Ohio put the trick in trick or treat in 2017 when he came up with the idea to build jack-o’-lanterns using pineapples. The resident advisor at his dorm had banned pumpkins because they rot and could attract bugs.

But Alex couldn’t be stopped from going on with the age-old Halloween tradition. So he settled on the next best fruit. Interestingly, the Irish are to thank for the practice of carving jack-o’-lanterns from pumpkins.
