51 #MyFamilyIsWeird Stories That Prove Just How Crazy People Across America Are
A Circle within a Circle
Having a big WhatsApp group and a smaller group to have some juicy discussions about whatever is happening in the big group is not weird. But families doing the same thing is weird.
Family group texts cause anxiety for a lot of people. Many like to mute the notifications as bowing out of the communal conversation is soothing for the mind. As per a 2017 study conducted by the American Psychological Association, constantly checking notifications can lead to overall stress. Such groups within groups can only add insult to injury.
The Quintessential Weird Aunt
There is always one uncle in the family who is known for his eccentricity. However, even aunts can fit into that role quite often. How can she claim the boy to be hers when he also has a twin sister who never makes a mention of?

Having said that, aunts have a huge role in bringing up their nephews and nieces. They can also be the second mother to the kids. Aunts are always willing to care for the little ones out of love.
One Towel, Many People
Sharing isn’t always caring, and when it comes to sharing towels, it’s a strict no-no. This family, however, has no belief in that. They are happy using the same towel just to avoid washing. Even the pup seems to be asking its owner, “How lazy can you get?”

Sharing the same towel might seem harmless, but the fact is that it can be the breeding ground for bacteria that grows in the bathroom’s damp and warm environment. Infection is quite common in these cases.
Even Kids Won’t Do That!
That’s a crazy dad out there! Why would he give himself every Christmas a gift pretending as if he got it from Santa himself, and also appear to be surprised every year? Well, while the kids might be embarrassed, he is not alone.

According to a poll, 21 percent of adults in the US believe Santa Claus exists. They also believe that on Christmas Eve, Santa brings gifts to children who have been good all year round and coal to the kids who haven’t been that good.
Traditionally Drunk
Imagine a family attending a Jimmy Buffet concert every year and appointing one person from the family to get sloshed. This mom got intoxicated the previous year and it was a sort of proud moment for them. That’s a weird family, no doubt!

But we think such weirdness is actually good. Attending live music not only brings the members of a family closer but also boosts happiness levels. Music and happiness are more deeply connected than what meets the eye.
The Overcurious Mom
Moms and their weird ways. Women are big-time addicts of television shows and web series, and this mother here loves to start a new show right from the finale. It’s almost like reading a book from the last chapter and pretending to know the whole story.

The final installment of an entertainment series is called the series finale. We think this mother is more curious than any other binge-watcher and is also time-poor. Some may think that she is smarter than most of us.
Eating Their Fortune
Family superstitions are of many types, but nothing beats the one of eating the fortune in fortune cookies and then trying to make it come true.

For those who believe in them, fortune cookies are considered a determinant of their fate. When one needs inspiration or is searching for answers, they love to break one fortune cookie and check what’s inside. The concept of fortune cookies has its origins in Japan. We are not sure if this family has ancestral ties in Japan.

Say, Pam!
The codeword for scaring others in this family seems to be ‘Pam!’ Somehow, the name ‘Pam’ sends shivers down their spine, and the real Pam doesn’t even know about it. The poor neighbor is oblivious to how scary her name has become for the rest. This started with the elders and was eventually imitated by the kids.

Well, kids are wired to imitate their elders, especially their parents. As they grow older, their learning ability develops. Not only do they learn words through imitation, but they also learn expletives and nicknames.
Saying Them Backwards
Now here is a cool dad. Alphabets start with A and end with Z. But he has taught his children how to say them backward, and there is a reason why. You never know when you might get pulled over by the cops, and knowing how to say alphabets backward might help.

The cops conduct this test routinely on people to find out whether that person is intoxicated and whether they need to be taken into custody. Termed the Rhomberg Alphabet Test, it is a routine sobriety exercise.
The Luddite
No matter how hard you try to teach some people how to unlock a smartphone or receive a call, they will take years to learn (or maybe never.) Joey tried to teach his father how to unlock an iPhone but in vain. His dad messed it all up every time.

Well, we cannot blame Joey’s dad. Older people do have a hard time operating their smartphones. Most technology is not tailored for them. They can’t remember the passwords. So-called user-friendly interfaces can prove to be quite complicated for them.
That’s a Very Hopeful Mom
Some parents obsess over their children’s marriage. There are several reasons why. They avoid social gatherings and unpleasant encounters as they have to face some uncomfortable questions, especially if they have an unmarried daughter sitting at home. They try out different tactics to see their daughter get a life companion. And sometimes, they go too far.

Take this mom, for example. She seems to have pinned all hopes on her daughter that she would get a boyfriend for herself before Christmas. Hilarious but subtly insulting as well.
Strange but Cute
Every family is weird in their way, and mispronouncing a word intentionally is common among many families. However, some people might not find it weird as wrong pronunciation takes us back to childhood and makes things nostalgic.

A universal truth concerning language is that it undergoes continuous change. Pronunciation is likely to go through a change with time, involving aspects such as vocabulary or grammar. Taking the person politely aside is the right way to correct someone’s pronunciation. But some things are sweet as they are.
